STEPHEN SHORE SHOOTS FOR URBAN OUTFITTERS
Stephen Shore, who shot Andy Warhol and the Factory darlings, including Edie Sedgwick in the 1960s, has turned his lens on high-street brand, Urban Outfitters. The image will be used in a campaign on both sides of the Atlantic this Autumn/Winter.
“Known for depicting America through photographs of banal scenes and objects, his images are also injected with his unique use of colour. Shore was the second living photographer to have a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1971, and with his subject usually being landscapes/observational geography, it was perhaps a surprise collaboration with the high street brand.” Press release

ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY ANNUAL AWARDS 2010
The annual RPS awards “recognising outstanding contributions to the art and science of photography” has announced this year’s winners, a selection of whom are mentioned below.
Albert Watson receives Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal. “Watson has made his mark as one of the most successful fashion, commercial and art photographers during the last four decades, with his work featured in galleries and museums worldwide, while two new Watson books, UFO: Unified Fashion Objectives, and Strip Search, published by PQ Blackwell, in association with Abrams, will be released in October.
Honorary Fellowships go to:
Fine art photographer, Sian Bonnell
Gallery director and curator, Keith Cavanagh
Tom Hunter – the first photographer to have a solo show at the National Gallery
Documentary photographer, Ken Lennox
Veteran picture editor, John Reardon
Pioneering colourist, Stephen Shore.
The Vic Odden Award, recognising notable achievement by a British photographer aged 35 or under, will be presented to Magnum nominee, Olivia Arthur.
The Society’s Lumière Award will go to Academy Award winning cinematographer, Chris Menges.
The J Dudley Johnston Award recognising “major achievement in the field of photographic criticism or the history of photography” is given, deservedly so, to A D Coleman who is featured in the blogroll on this site.
Congratulations to Hood Medal to PhotoVoice founders and directors Tiffany Fairey and Anna Blackman, who I have worked with in the past.
